 Kyra Minturn Sedgwick (born August 19, 1965) is an American actor, producer and director. She is best known for her leading role as deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on the TNT crime drama The Closer. Sedgwick was awarded a Golden Globe Award in 2007 for her portrayal of Johnson and also an Emmy Award 2010 for her portrayal. The show ended on the 13th, 2012 following the conclusion of its seventh season. Sedgwick is also known for her part in Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Madeline Wuntch. Sedgwick was nominated for the Golden Globe award in 1995 for her performance on Something to Talk About. Sedgwick's film roles include Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July (1989) as well as Cameron Crowe's Solos (1992), Heart and Souls (93), Phenomenon (2000) as well as What's cooking (2000) as well as Secondhand Lions (2003). The actress also appeared in The Game Plan (2007) and The Possession (2012). Sedgwick is the daughter of Patricia Rosenwald, an educator therapy for families, a venture capitalist as well as Henry Dwight Sedgwick VII, a speech therapist. Her mother was Jewish and her father was Episcopalian. Sedgwick was of English heritage. Sedgwick identifies herself as Jewish and has said that she participates at Passover seders.
