Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice presidency and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator who fought for health care and federal de-scheduling of cannabis. A pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She is well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
